My inspiration... Well hes far from white but i love him any way. My inspiration is my loving horse Trigger. He inspires me because as a wild horse he has gone tho a lot just like i have. When i got him he was scared of everything and as we work tho his fears i work tho mine as well. My mustang Trigger taught me that just because its scary you can do it and that if someone thinks you cant do it to prove them wrong. Mustangs are unlike any horse i have ever worked with i may just be 16 but i have worked with many breeds from Arabs, Ponies to Drafts and everything in between, but with the mustangs there wild and free and when they come to you from the wild they are scared but they never had a chance to learn and as you work with them the start to love learning and turn into one of the most respectful caring and loving horses you will ever own. To me Trigger is smart funny and very respectful as a horse. Hes giving me the confidence to try new things and to speak my mind more also he has giving me the courage to do what i want in life instead for standing on the side line and watching. Trigger has helped me tho a lot in my life and i am thankful to have him. I wouldn't be where i am today if i would have never met Trigger i may have only had him less then a year but he has changed my life in many ways and i hope he can continue to do so and that we can grow and do many things together in our years ahead! Challenge me, Dare me, or even defy me. But do NOT underestimate me. For on the back of my horse ANYTHING is possible.

I grew up on a horse farm and always wanted to become a horse trainer, when I grew up. I quit riding when I was 16. That was in 1973.
My father was a professional traner and my mother and father were divorced around that time. It was a bitter divorce during which my father and I became estranged.
In 2004 my father and I reconciled. He was retired from training and showing. I was 47 years old.
He had a yearling that was lame from a bad injury to her cornet band. He told me that I could have her. I didn't know if she would ever be sound, but I wanted her just to love and care for no matter if I could ever ride her or not.
After her injury healed, she never took a lame step. I started riding her when she was 22 months old.
With my Dad and stepmother's help, I was able to show her in our first reining class when she was a long 2 year old. Amazingly, she placed third out of ten and she received her first AQHA reining point!
When I was 50 and she was just 4, we went to the NAILE show in Kentucky and won first in the Novice Amatuer reining.
She has done quite well in the reining events that she has shown in but, she is much more than just a reining horse to me. She has changed my life! She has made a childhood dream come true for me!
Before I began riding again I had little in my life other than working. I went threw bouts of depression that robbed me of any interests in life. Now, whenever I feel a little down, all I have to do is spend time with my girl "Hazel" and it makes me realize what a great life I have! Not many people get a chance to fulfill a childhood dream at 50!

Inspiration for me, comes in the form of the Arabian horse. While I have respect for all the breeds, the Arabian to me, is one that not only demands the respect but thrives on it as well. I’ve ridden and shown everything from back-yard ponies to ‘A show’ quality Arabs, Morgans, and Saddlebreds but the Arabian, for me, is unlike any other. Everything from their versatility to breathtaking beauty enthralls and amazes me. However, while their physical appearance and prowess is what originally attracted me to the breed, it is their personalities that keep me coming back for more.
I’ve had some struggles, mostly physical (I now have a spinal fusion as a result of surgery for scoliosis) growing up and because of that, lacked self-confidence for a long time. When I began riding again, after my surgery, I slowly began to re-gain some of the self-confidence. When I began riding Arabs, I regained even more. To be accepted by the Arabian, is one of the biggest gifts I’ve ever been given. To have one of them see me as an equal, someone who is a partner and can be trusted, I cannot even begin to describe.
Everything about the breed inspires me. Their confidence, attitude in and out of the show ring, grace, loyalty, and beauty are just a few things I can think of that I try to incorporate in my everyday life.
It is because of the Arabian that my final educational goal is to attend and graduate law school. As of now, I am an undergraduate student about to enter my Junior year of college and to say money is tight would be an understatement. I work everyday I’m in school (and during the summers when I work) to ensure that I will be able to afford to not only have (I don’t say ‘own’ because to me, my Arabs are never objects, they are partners) Arabian when I get older, but to be able to provide for them the life they innately deserve. One filled with the best of everything.

I just found your site and the "I ride my own white horse" saying caught my eye because I own a white horse, but after reading about what it stands for I was even more excited about the campaign.

No matter our color, religion, or region, we ALL ride our white horse at some point during the day. We choose to ride when we get up and let someone less fortunate take our seat, or when we smile at someone even when we don't feel like smiling. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, is to me, Riding Your Own White Horse. I have a beautiful real white horse named Grease, but the white horse I ride daily in my everyday life is the one that makes me a true Modern Cowgirl, the one I'm proudest of. The one that makes me Me. So Ladies, keep taking the high road, even if it is the hardest, so we can proudly say we truly do Ride Our Own White Horse!

I read an article about Shana in a local magazine, and was so impressed, I wanted to find this site. I don't have a horse at all (although I have raised lots of dogs). But the concept embodied in "riding my own white horse" has always resonated with me. I have been self-reliant for most of my life, even while sharing my life with great men & great friends.
I recently closed a retail store I had owned for over 30 years, and transitioning to an on-line store (www.marthasbodybueno.com) and working from home, was a scary prospect; but as with many changes in life, I believe it is turning out for the best.
I try to remember that I didn't get to where I am by doing it all alone. Part of the reason my business succeeded was b/c of the input and assistance of an ever-rotating staff of committed employees. We strong women can be leaders, innovators, motivators, hard workers - and part of our strength lies in our abilities to include our friends and associates and family in our journeys, knowing we don't necessarily have to do it all alone.
I agree wholeheartedly with what someone else here said - don't wait for someone else to come along & do it for you!

Me and my own white horse! - Marlene

I learned to ride a beautiful white horse on my grandfather's farm in Fallbrook, CA, many, many years ago. My cousin taught me to ride. I would hang on dearly to my cousin atop that gorgeous white horse - named "Whitey."We would trot down the nearby wash and I thought I was on top of the world! I'm thinking I was about 9 yrs old. Then in 2001 I moved to Ogallala, Nebraska, and there was the most beautiful Paint horse I had ever seen. His name was Tucson. Tucson was the sweetest horse and I loved riding him. I rode my own Paint horse (of white and brown) until I had to leave the end of 2003. How I miss that horse.

On a beautiful sunny California day a Grey Percheron was rescued from slaughter by some friends of mine that later were not able to keep him. I took him home. He was my first horse. He changed my life forever. After loving and learning from him (Knight of Dreams) I sold my Chiropractic practice in CA and started a non for profit, for the rescue and sanctuary of mature draft horse breeds. Rescuing them from an untimely death since 2003. Knight has been with me through it all, as I believe he came to me to help him with his dream. He has always been my knight in shining armor. I don't know where I would be or what I would be doing, if not meant for him. He allowed a whole other world for me to open up in my heart! It has been a blessed journey with Knight..."I Ride my own white horse".

I ride my own horse because I can! There is a cowgirl inside of every woman, its a feeling, a spirit, an attitude. It is at the every woman's core. It's the part of her that keeps her going when all others have quit. The part of her that goes hungry so her family will eat. The part of her that gets up, bloody and battered and says"NO MORE"! The part of her that will die for her children without a second thought. That part of a woman is the white horse,it's her horse and she rides it tall and proud. And when it comes time for her to dismount, she can take the saddle off her white horse, pat him on the neck and say "I rode the best I knew how, it was a great ride."

"She thought he would be coming on a white horse, so she kept her boots ready." I bought a framed print with that saying on it back in my early 20s. At the time, it was a saying full of hope for what the future might hold. As the years went on, I realized that life was happening all around me and that I needed to get going whether he was here yet or not. Sometimes ya gotta just put your boots on and go... I RIDE MY OWN WHITE HORSE.

I am hopeful that I will find the right guy to spend my life with. I hope that he'll be handsome and kind and make laugh. If he steals my heart, he will surely share my love of animals, the outdoors, and children. He'll love me for my sense of adventure, my knowledge of random trivia, and the fact that I haven't been waiting on him for my life to begin. I RIDE MY OWN WHITE HORSE.

My horse has been a huge blessing to me. He's better than therapy, he always puts me in a good mood and he's taught me so much about horses (since he is my first, I've had him 3 years, and I'm in my 40's) and taught me so much about myself. I always wanted a horse, and probably sooner wasn't the right time. He came into my life when I could appreciate what he does for me mentally, physically and with lovingly.
Oh, and the love of my life, and huge blessing to me, is my grey arab (pretty much my white horse). And, yes he gives kisses, when I ask.

For some, determination comes standard. For others it can prove to be inspiring and most rewarding.
Growing up with horses has strengthened this resolve for me. I can admire the grace, the beauty, and the sheer power of these magnificent animals and see the same in myself. I do not feel the need to wait for my prince charming to ride up on his white horse; I do not need a hero to slay my dragons. I am my own hero, my own motivation, and my own reward. I live in this moment to determine my future- understanding who I was, who I am, and who I want to be.
My friends are this way too. They are inspirations, they are champions. They are confident, intelligent, and “beautiful”. My forever friend continues to be an inspiration to me. She has maintained the highest average as she puts herself through school, she has faced aversion, and she has faced the most exceptional of barriers. But still she rises. She truly has empowered her inner cowgirl and reminded me that we all, as strong women, can overcome the most challenging of demands.
Together we truly live for the day, and inspire for tomorrow. I can’t think of any greater meaning in this life. Who knew that cowgirls could truly shatter the glass ceilings, and tear down the walls…? For me, my friends, and my horses, are my strength, and my release.
I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Jennifer
